Institutional Marketing Plan Development

The initial priorities of the Institutional Marketing Department are to streamline existing marketing efforts and develop a five-year institutional marketing plan. Our focus is to reinforce the current Graphics Standards Manual (GSM) and redirect new initiatives to adhere to UW's existing brand message. At this point we are not conducting research or creating a new institutional brand.

Upon completion of the Institutional Marketing Plan, additional actions will include:

  • Design and development of an institutional brand.
  • Design and development of an institutional marketing campaign.
  • Design and development of a new institutional Web site.
  • Assist all departments, colleges and areas of administration with the development of individual action plans and marketing campaigns that adhere to the overarching institutional brand message.

The process of developing a five-year Institutional Marketing Plan has been divided into six phases, with a completion date of May 2009.

  • Phase 1: Develop an institutional marketing committee, and analyze existing data.
  • Phase 2: Develop institutional marketing goals and determine a strategic position.
  • Phase 3: Evaluate and streamline existing institutional brand image.
  • Phase 4. Update Graphics Standards Manual to guide promotional efforts.
  • Phase 5. Present five-year Institutional Marketing Plan to Board of Trustees.
  • Phase 6: Guide development of annual action plans for all departments, colleges and areas of administration, and begin executing Year One of the Institutional Marketing Plan.

We encourage your participation as we work to streamline existing marketing efforts and develop a five-year marketing plan. If our marketing team has not yet had an opportunity to meet with your staff, please feel free to contact us. Thank you!
