Cultures and Societies

Given the urgent priority for adaptation to ongoing environmental change, we train students to use the laboratory of the ancient and modern worlds to study human-environmental existence through time and space. Students have the opportunity to:

1. understand long-term human-environmental interactions at different spatial and temporal scales
2. integrate the knowledge found in the ecological, environmental, climatological, and archaeological sciences to address problems of global significance
3. understand the policy and management implications of their research and
4. learn to communicate effectively to the scientific community, the public, managers and policy makers.
