Frequently Asked Questions

How much experience do I need?

You don’t need any outdoor or technical experience at all. Each group will spend the first day (at least) going over the basics. If you have prior experience, this is a great time to help someone who might not have a lot of experience. Frequently we have students who have never been camping before, an overwhelming majority report having a wonderful time.

How physically fit do I need to be?

A good level of physical fitness is important. Each one of our sections has various physical requirements which are outlined in the itineraries. If you have specific questions about this, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail us.

When do we get back and where will we be dropped off?

We usually return in the mid to late afternoon on Thursday. We’ll return to the Union parking lot. Check out this map to find the parking lot. It's close to the residence halls. We ask that you help load group gear into the OP office and also de-issue any personal equipment rented from us at this time.

Where do we meet to depart?

We will meet in the grassy area between White Hall and Washakie at 9 a.m. on Monday. We will bring any gear you requested to rent at this time.

How big are the groups?

Each group consists of (at most) 10 participants and two instructors.

What equipment should I bring?

Please check out our equipment list. We ask that you do not stray too far from the list, although for all the groups you can leave things in the vehicles. If you have specific questions, please call us!

Can I rent items that I don't have?

Absolutely. Since we will not have enough sleeping bags and sleeping pads for everyone, we strongly encourage you to bring your own.
