Summer Outdoor Experience
Summer Outdoor ExperienceSummer Outdoor Experience rafting the Poudre River, CO

A wilderness-type orientation program for incoming freshmen!

The Summer Outdoor Experience (SOE) is a unique opportunity specifically for incoming students attending summer orientation. The experience begins with four days of canoeing on the North Platte River (including a stop to soak in a natural Wyoming hot spring), just over the Snowy Range Mountains from Laramie, followed by a day of white water rafting through North Gate Canyon! This summer, we will also offer a short weekend trip; 2-days of rock climbing at Vedauwoo. See below for more details.

You do not need any prior experience to participate. The purpose of this experience is to introduce you to the awesome outdoor opportunities in southeast Wyoming and to meet other incoming students interested in adventure and having fun. The program is led by experienced instructors from the Outdoor Program. Trips are limited to 12 participants and are offered in conjunction with summer orientation programs; signing up early is strongly recommended. All food, transportation and group equipment (such as tents and cooking gear) will be provided. Most personal equipment (such as a sleeping bag) can be rented for a small fee if you don’t have your own.

For more information about the program, please see the links to the left.
