Message Therapy

Prepare for your Massage

Massage can be an excellent way to de-stress, relax, and relieve tight muscles.  Our skilled massage therapists are trained to provide you with individualized care and help you feel at ease.  Here are some things to expect and some tips for how to get the most out of your massage.

  1. Be open and receptive to the massage process.  It's normal to feel nervous, especially before your first massage. Take a deep breath and try to relax.
  2. Please shower before your massage.
  3. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time.  This will allow you time to fill out relevant paperwork, change, and relax.
  4. Take off only as much clothing as you are comfortable removing.  While many people prefer to disrobe completely, the therapist can work with whatever makes you most comfortable.  The therapist will leave the room while you undress and will provide you with a sheet to cover you.  The therapist will uncover only the part of your body being massaged at the time, ensuring that modesty is respected at all times.  After the massage is finished, you will be provided with privacy while dressing.
  5. Communicate with your massage therapist.  Let him or her know your expectations and reasons for the massage.  Tell your therapist if you have any allergies to oils, lotions, creams, or if you want him or her to avoid massaging a particular area.  Report any pain or discomfort immediately, whether it is from the massage or due to any problems or distractions related to the room or environment.
  6. Massage is non-sexual.  If anything happens that you dislike or seems improper, you have the right to ask the massage therapist to stop.  You also have the right to end the session at any time.  The therapist also has the right to terminate the massage at any time.
  7. Try to breathe normally.  Relax your muscles and your mind.
  8. Drink extra water after your massage.
  9. After your massage, please fill out an evaluation form and turn it into the Wellness Center.  This will help us to improve our massage therapy services.
