Student Research & Conference Support

The Religious Studies Department awards grants to University of Wyoming students in order to facilitate research in religious studies and the presentation of research at academic conferences. 

There is no fixed deadline for applications.  The Religious Studies scholarship committee will consider applications throughout the academic year until funds are exhausted.  Applications must be submitted at least two months in advance of the conference or the use of the funds for research.  Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for extraordinary opportunities arising at the last minute. 

Application packets should include the following materials:

1. A project proposal (for research funding) or an abstract of the paper to be presented and proof of the paper’s acceptance (for conference funding).
2. A budget, showing not only the research or conference costs, but also other sources of funding applied for and/or received.  We encourage students to seek matching funds from other sources at the University (such as the Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office) and elsewhere.  (Many professional societies offer scholarships for students to attend their conferences, for example.)
3. The name of one professor who will serve as a reference.  This should normally be the project advisor.

Students will be expected to present the results of their research, or a version of their conference paper, at the next Religious Studies Student Conference.
