Winter Break Housing

Washakie Dining Center closes at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 and the Residence Halls close at noon on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

The Residence Halls will re-open at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018. Washakie Dining Center will re-open at 11am on that same day.

Approval for winter break housing is based on documented need such as participation in university related activities, work responsibilities, or other demonstrated need presented by the applicant.

Charges apply to winter break housing and will be applied to the student account. Charges will be calculated for nights stayed between 12/20/17 through 1/14/18.

The room rates are:

  • $19.20 per night

Those approved by the department to stay over Winter Break need to fill out the contract and indicate the UW activity they will be involved in. They will be notified if they have been approved. Once approved, they then need to come in person to see Betty in the Washakie Office by December 1, 2017 to get their card encoded for the front doors and room. Please note that any resident who does not sign up for winter break housing will not have access to their rooms during the time period. Students should take everything they need over break when they leave after their finals.

Apply here for winter break housing (deadline to apply is Friday, December 1, 2017)

Winter Closing Information

The residence halls will be closing at 12:00pm on 12/20/2017 for Winter Break. Please take the time to read and complete the checklist below prior to leaving for break. If you have any questions or concerns, please refer to your Resident Assistant or the Residence Life & Dining Services Office in the lower level of Washakie.

  • The residence halls will not be accessible to students after 12:00pm on 12/20/2017. The halls will reopen on 1/19/2018 at 8:00am. This excludes those who have signed up for Winter Break Housing.

  • Pack everything you will need for the break such as skis, boots, clothes, and medication. Remember to take valuables home with you.

  • Residents living in Honors House, Downey, McIntyre, Orr, and White Hall, leave your heat turned on (3 on the dial). Make sure the windows are closed and locked, with curtains/blinds closed.

  • Take plants and fish with you so they can be cared for during break.

  • Dispose of or donate all perishable foods at front desk.

  • Unplug all lights, electronics, and appliances.

  • Turn off all the room lights.

  • Close and lock your door.

  • Contact anyone who may be sending you mail during the break. Mail is not forwarded during break.

Half of the room, including one closet, one desk and one bed should be clear and free of any personal belongings. If you fail to keep half of the room clear, you will be charged for the entire room or for the removal of your belongings. Residence Coordinators will check all rooms during finals week to verify occupancy.
