Multi-Function Implement

Description of Technology:

The general purpose of the Multi-Function Implement is to provide an easily repairable, draft-animal drawn farm implement that reduces soil disturbance, can be used for seedbed preparation, weeding, subsoiling and other operation for which tools can be attached to a standard sized tool bar.

Applications:

The Multi-Function Implement is designed to address the limitations present with moldboard plows that threaten food security in developing nations.  The Multi-Function Implement has the potential to improve soil quality and crop yields while reducing hand labor and stress of draft animals.

Features and Benefits:

The Multi-Function Implement represents an improvement over existing tillage methods because the moldboard plow is the most common animal-drawn implement used in developing countries.  Chisel plows and sweep weeders attached to the Multi-Function Implement do not invert the soil and therefore reduce disturbance and improve soil quality.  The weeder options also save hand labor.  The Multi-Function Implement is designed to address the limitations of the moldboard plow while reducing soil disturbance and providing tillage options.
