SafeRide SideKicks
SideKicks are the ride-along volunteers that help keep SafeRide operating. Without SideKicks, SafeRide is unable to operate the On-Call portion of the night. There's just too much going on for one driver to be able to safely operate the van alone.
SideKick responsibilities include:
Tracking passenger numbers which are totaled each night and act as the official numbers for our passenger count
Assist the driver in navigating the streets of Laramie
Record pickup and drop off locations
Help keep passengers safe and help enforce the policies of SafeRide (under the direction of the driver)
Talk with the passengers and ensure everyone enjoys the SafeRide Program
Typical Night
SideKicks are picked up by a SafeRide driver shortly after 10pm, for the next several hours they help transport 50-100 passengers safely around town. The Dispatcher stops taking calls at 2am signaling the final stretch of the night. SafeRide continues to provide rides to passengers waiting at the various bars in the downtown area until everyone who wants a ride gets home safely. SideKicks are generally dropped back off at their homes at around 2:30-3am

SafeRide uses up to 24 volunteers per weekend and are generally ALWAYS looking for more help. To volunteer please contact 766-7433 or email saferide@uwyo.edu.
Student Organization Adopt-a-Night
Adopt-a-Night for the 2011 Fall Semester will start taking reservations 2 weeks before the semester begins.
Through the SideKick RSO Incentive Program, University of Wyoming official RSOs have the opportunity to earn $100 per Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday evening for providing an adequate number of SideKicks for SafeRide. In order to earn the full amount of the money, RSOs must follow through in providing 70% of all SideKicks to the program for the full evening, as outlined below.
Night & Time | Necessary SideKicks | Minimum Provided SideKicks |
| Thursday: 9:30pm-2:30am | 7 | 5 |
| Friday: 9:30pm-2:30am | 8 | 6 |
| Saturday: 9:30pm-2:30am | 8 | 6 |
If the above requirements are not completed, then the RSOs earned monies will be adjusted accordingly. Final decisions regarding this procedure will be made by the SafeRide Student Coordinator and the ASUW Business Office Associate.
Monetary Stipulations
- After service by the RSO is completed, ASUW will not release a check to the RSO. Rather, ASUW will pay the bills of that RSO up to the total earned amount.
- Monies must be used by April 30 each year or the RSO's earned money will expire.
- RSOs are limited to $800 per semester.
