Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is it possible to get health coverage over the summer if you are an existing student who did not get health insurance through the university during the previous semester?
Answer: ONE of two circumstances must apply to be eligible for the Student Health Insurance in the summer. Either... 1. You were an eligible student during the spring, and are now losing existing coverage through parents, work, etc, with no more than a 30 day lapse. 2. You are enrolled in at least 1 credit hour during the summer. You may enroll for insurance in the month in which you are taking your course. If either of these apply to you, you may enroll for the health insurance by stopping by my office 248 of Knight Hall, and filling out an enrollment card. Call 766-3025 with any further questions.

Question: What does the insurance cover? Does it also cover dental?
Answer: The insurance has a $20, 000 maximum payout per illness/injury. There is $250 deductible per policy year, 75/25 co-pay of the usual and customary charges. There is no vision or dental coverage available.

Question: What is the deductible amount?
Answer: The deductible amount is $250 per policy year.

Question: Can a student get insurance if they take 3 credits, not 4.5.
Answer: As a graduate student you must petition the Office of the Registrar to receive part time benefits if you have less than 4.5 hours. It is not automatically granted and the petition process must be completed and insurance added prior to drop/add each semester.

Answer: Students must take at least 6 hours or more as an undergraduate and 4.5 hours or more as a graduate student in order to qualify.
