Drug Free Workplaces
There are many benefits for businesses to have drug-free workplaces.
All these
benefits translate into savings for the business, giving a
business a competitive advantage - businesses can earn a discount on
workers compensation premiums, lower employee turnover, reduce employee
absenteeism, and others. However, the cost of developing and
implementing a DFW program may be a challenge to Wyoming’s small
businesses.
Wyoming Entrepreneur SBDC recognizes the need for outside financial and advising assistance to integrate and deploy new policy.
By taking part in the Drug Free Workplace program, participants will
receive free on-going, one-on-one business advising to assess the
business and assist with its challenges as well as help oversee the
implementation of the drug-free workplace program. In addition, Wyoming
Entrepreneur SBDC, with the financial help from the Small Business
Administration’s Jobs Act, will pay for the policy development,
implementation, and training for both employees and managers up to
$1,000, typically enough to cover all development and implementation
costs up to the first drug test. Upon program acceptance, 50% of this
money is available up front with the remainder after the DFW policy is
implemented. Through the workers compensation premium discount and other
benefits the drug-free workplace program is expected to pay for itself
and bring additional benefits to the business.
Wyoming Entrepreneur SBDC requires baseline data and quarterly data in
several areas to gauge the program’s success. These areas include:
- New or retained employees (including turnover rate)
- Accident/injury
- Damage/theft
- Increased sales
- reduced absenteeism
If selected to take part, the business must work with a Wyoming business to develop a policy, have manager and employee training in accordance to Wyoming Department of Employment Workers Compensation Discount policy requirements. The provider will receive up to $1,000 to cover implementation costs after successfully implementing a drug-free workplace program for the business and complying with program requirements.
Program participation requirements:
- Must have been in business at least six months, or obtain prior approval to apply from Wyoming Entrepreneur SBDC drug-free workplace committee.
- Must agree to the program terms specified in the application.
- Must be a Wyoming company
