Stephen Garth|Meet the Science Posse

PhD Candidate in Mathematics

Graduate Fellow

Topics for the Classroom:

Cryptography

Solvability of Puzzles

Physics

Education:

B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Georgia Institute of Technology

Current Research:

Cryptography is used every single day and exploits our tremendous lack of knowledge in an area that is easy to grasp.  By learning more about the structure of number systems we can only hope to unravel the intricate beauty that lies in the theory of numbers.

Background:

I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and realized early on in my life that I had a deep curiosity for the physical world.  I attended Georgia Institute of Technology for my undergraduate studies.  Initially I majored in Nuclear Engineering but after working in a nuclear facility for 8 months realized that my true passion was mathematics.  I then changed my major to study mathematics.  I started the pursuit of a PhD in Mathematics in January of 2011.
