Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting|Research Question 1

Collect the Data from the Videos:

Watch each of Emiliano's videos and record your results.

For each of the videos below, use a stop watch to determine how many seconds the vicuna spends vigilant and and how many seconds it spends feeding.

You will need to make a table to write down the seconds each vicuna spends vigilant and feeding. If you need help designing one, here is an example.

Sample Size:

Sample size matters in analyzing data.

Can you determine:
  • the sample size for each habitat? (Hint: how many vicuna were filmed in each?)
  • the total sample size? (Hint: how many vicuna were filmed all together?)

Analyze and Report Your Data:

  • Find the average amount of time the five vicuna in the short grass habitat spent vigilant and feeding. Need help?
  • Find the average amount of time th the five vicuna in the tall grass habitat spent vigilant and feeding. Need help?
  • Display your data in a graph. Need help?

Summarize Your Results:

  • Were the feeding and vigilant times different in short and tall vegetation habitats? If they were, how were they different?
  • Were your hypothesis and predictions confirmed by by the data?
  • What inferences can you make from the data?
  • What causes the differences in vicuna behavior?

Compare Your Results with the Researcher's Results
