Interactive Studies in Field Ecology |Virtual Research in the Classroom

Explore how ecologists conduct research in the field!

Virtual Research in the Classroom modules provide opportunities for students to experience real scientific research without the direct presence of a Science Posse fellow.

The associated web pages contain everything necessary to create a virtual field research experience for students to help them develop an understanding of the type of research a scientist. The researcher provides information about the area and the subjects being studied. The researcher shares his or her research questions with the students, encouraging them to make  hypotheses about the answers to those questions. Using the researcher’s actual data students determine if their hypotheses are supported or refuted. When feasible, a link is provided so the students can ask the researcher follow up questions.

Students can use the researcher's methods as a model for their own scientific studies. The students experience a real-world example of how science is used and research conducted.
