About Us

Mission

The School of Energy Resources (SER) at the University of Wyoming (UW) was created in 2006 to enhance the university's energy-related education, research and outreach. SER directs and integrates cutting edge energy research and academic programs at UW and bridges academics and industry through targeted outreach programs.

Message from Our Executive Director

Since the School of Energy Resources' inception in 2006, millions of dollars have been contributed by the energy industry to help stand up top flight research facilities at the University of Wyoming (UW), such as the Energy Innovation Center and the High Bay Research Facility. These dollars have also contributed to the support of undergraduate and graduate student programs in energy research programs. We greatly appreciate the contributions of all of these donors toward advancement of energy research and education in Wyoming.

We also can't ignore the continued commitment by the Wyoming Legislature to fund SER. Over the years, the Wyoming Legislature has provided funding for the staffing and operations of SER as well as for targeted energy research in the areas of advanced conversion technologies for coal and natural gas, in-situ uranium mining, rare earth elements and most recently, carbon engineering - technologies to use carbon from coal to create non-fuel value added materials.

It takes time for the private and state monetary investments to realize a return on investment. But after 12 years, we have two new buildings housing cutting edge research enterprises and nine research Centers of Excellence addressing emerging issues in a variety of energy-related topics of importance in Wyoming.
