Academic Advising

Academic advising is an important partnership between the academic advisor and the student. In this partnership, issues regarding personal, professional, and education goals are examined. Students are expected to take the initiative in developing the advisor-advisee relationship and assume an increasing role in developing their own goals.

Fall 2018 Advising

Advising for the Spring 2018 semester begins on Monday, March 26, 2018.  Work through the Advising Checklist to prepare for your appointment.

  • Check prerequisites
  • Schedule classes with one section first
  • Take a maximum of two high-difficulty courses each semester
  • Take a minimum of 12 credit hours to be full-time
  • A normal load is 14 to 17 credit hours
  • Reduce your credit hours if you are working more than 15 to 20 hours per week
  • Sophomores and juniors should schedule alternate sections in popular classes such as Biology, Chemistry and Math

Environment and Natural Resources Majors

Students concurrently majoring in the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) program should take one class each semester that applies to the ENR program. Check with your ENR advisor if you have any questions about the classes you should take.

Minors, Honors Program and ROTC

Check your degree evaluation and contact your minor or ROTC advisor to be sure that you are taking classes that apply to your program. Take one class each semester to fulfill the program requirements. Consider adding a minor to your program to add depth in your area of interest.
