School of Energy Resources Center for Fundamentals of Subsurface Flow Workshop in Unconventional Resources Experimentation, Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation • Recovery of natural gas from unconventional reservoirs Workshop Information

The main focus of the workshop is on the topics described below, however contributions will be considered in the general area of porous media flows. The workshop will have presentations from the research groups that have been funded by the Center for Fundamentals of Subsurface Flow as well as contributed talks.

Topics

  • Recovery of natural gas from unconventional reservoirs characterized by low permeability.  Namely, research activities that aim at improving the current understanding of permeability distribution, connectivity, and flow pathways that can be used to improve reservoir models and field design.
  • Sequestration of greenhouse gas and associated impurities (GGI) in geologic formations, e.g., deep saline aquifers and oil and gas reservoirs. Namely, research activities that aim at improving the current understanding of the underlying phenomena responsible for various GGI geologic storage mechanisms that can be used to develop or improve predictive modeling tools.

Organizers

This workshop is dedicated to Professor Myron Allen on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Over the years Professor Allen has had an important impact on the education of several scientists at the University of Wyoming and this will be an opportunity for this group of researchers to meet and discuss current research projects.

The workshop will begin with at 8:15am on Monday, May 19 and conclude at 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 21.   All meeting sessions will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie, Wyoming.
