ECON 1300 Oil: Business, Culture & Power Oil is the world's most important commodity. Access to oil was decisive in the great military struggles of the 20th century. The economic and strategic value of oil has led to a fasinating array of business, political, and strategic alliances around the world. The story of oil also involves the exploits of a very diverse cast of characters. The objective of this course is to describe the technological, commerical, and political innovations shaping the world oil industry. Thsi knowledge is vital in achieving a more complete understanding of energy in international affairs and economic development. THe course invovles short lecture and discussions, interspersed with 10-minute video clips from the acclaimed 8-part PBS series "The Prize" (sorry no popcorn is served).
