Training Schedules:

Please note that the time values on these schedules are exact, as in to the minute, due to the formulas we have setup to develop the system. It is ridiculous and unnecessary for you to run for exactly 42:03 minutes! Please be reasonable to ballpark all the times I dont' want to see times of 12:22 minutes in your training logs!

Quadrant 1 Training: Spring

Quadrant 2 Training (Summer)

Quadrant 3 Training (Fall)

Quadrant 4 Training (Winter)

***All the training schedules are PDF Documents, please email uwski@yahoo.com if you have trouble viewing them.

Training Groups:

We have developed a naming system for training groups. They are all the names of peppers: Bell, Banana, Cayenne, Jalapeno, and Habanero. This training has been specially designed for you in order to help you make the next step in your training. Training is like a staircase or ladder, if you jump from one step and skip the next one you will shortly become over tired, if you take the steps in the manner that they are designed you will move up easily and effectively. If you are a Bell doing the training for a Jalapeno will not make you faster! Every training group is focused on what that group needs at that time. These are designed to help everyone reach their potential while avoiding under training or over training:

Bell - Ages 13-15 or Individuals who have never trained consistently for an endurance sport. This training is designed to develop the basic skills and training base to support more specific ski training later. This training should be fun and consist of things that the athletes would like to do anyway. Very little ski specific training is done, this is just the beginning of learning about your body, training logs, training schedules, etc. Just get out there and have fun!

Banana- Ages 15-18 or Individuals who have not been following a regular training schedule and have generally been logging less than 3 to 4 hours a week of training will usually be assigned to this group. Training for this group is designed to improve general fitness level and enable athletes to become a Cayenne or Jalapeno.

Cayenne - Ages 15-18 or Individuals who have been following a regular training schedule but have generally been logging less than 4 to 5 hours a week of training will usually be assigned to this group. Training for this group is designed to improve general fitness level and enable athletes to become a Jalapeno.

Jalapeno - Individuals who have recently participated in some type of competitive sport and or who are training regularly (daily jogs , bikes, hikes, etc...) are generally assigned to this group. Young athletes who are new to the UW Nordic program, regardless of previous training and fitness level, are often also assigned to this group. The training for this group is designed to allow fit athletes to get into racing shape and possibly become a habanero.

Habanero: This group is designed for athletes who have been following a regular training schedule for at least 1 year. They have been logging their hours and monitoring their heart rates and usually train more than 6 hours per week. Training for this group is designed to improve race performance / results.
