In response to the Student Affairs Support Services Plan and a resolution from ASUW, SLCE was created to enhance and centralize current leadership and civic engagement programs and to create new opportunities for students at UW to be involved at UW. SLCE works to develop student leaders and fosters civic engagement opportunities through workshops, leadership consultations, retreats, outreach and partnerships. SLCE collaborates with various departments and organizations, both on and off campus, to integrate leadership and civic engagement opportunities into a variety of co-curricular activities at UW.In Fall 2010, SLCE joined forces with the Center for Volunteer Services and became "Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement."
Through dynamic, collaborative partnerships with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community, SLCE provides high quality opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, for student involvement, leadership and personal development, community activism, and reflection. SLCE prepares students to turn spirit and passion into effective action!
The Service, Leadership & Community Engagement Office promotes service, leadership development and community engagement opportunities for all University of Wyoming students. We accomplish this by offering programs and resources for individual students, support and training to RSOs, staff, faculty, and community organizations, as well as campus-based programs, and voter education.
We provide resources for academic courses and research opportunities in service-learning and leadership studies and the implementation of a service-learning methodology for UW faculty. We assess current levels of student involvement and engagement and promote SLCE programs as a means to recruit and retain students at the University of Wyoming.
The SLCE office is located in the lower-level of the Wyoming Union. The student leaders and staff in the SLCE office work to assist students to develop their leadership capacity and involvement opportunities on campus and in the community; the student leaders and staff help students make a difference while at the University of Wyoming.
