Please read through all of the following requirements for
both the SMTC and the UW admissions process
prior to submitting your application
SMTC Admissions Process - Printable Checklist
To be eligible for the MSNS Middle Level programs one must possess a current Teaching Certification and have 1 year of classroom teaching experience. UW Graduate Admissions requires a 3.0 Cumulative GPA for all undergraduate work and a composite score of 291 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the General GRE, based on the new scale (291 is the equivalent of a 900 - 450 verbal and 450 quantitative, on the old scale). The SMTC does accept an Alternative Portfolio instead of GRE scores with a score of 15 out of a possible 20.
The MSNS-NED program requires application and acceptance to the Teton Science School Professional Residency in Environmental Education program (TSS-PREE) prior to submitting an application to the SMTC. *NOTE: These applicants are not required to have a current teaching certification or one year of classroom teaching experience.

*Please read through the directions before completing the application/writing sample
Official Transcripts for all post secondary coursework (please notify our office if you have UW credits prior to requesting an official transcript from the UW Admissions Office).
Three "Recommendation in Support" forms provided by individuals knowledgeable about your preparation and/or qualifications for our graduate degree program.
Current Resume
One "Recommendation in Support" form from a school administrator or for the NED program, from a TSS faculty member.
GRE Scores or an Alternative Portfolio that meets the eligibility requirements
