Year One
(Sessions are approximately 6 weeks apart over a 6-7 month period.)
Session I Topics and Activities 2 days
- Introduction and rationale
- What are we learning from students?
- Interviewing
Between Sessions I & II
- Interview Students
- Compare students' ideas with textbooks and curriculum
- Begin journal entries
Session II Topics and Activities 2 days
- Share what was learned from students
- Begin conceptual change strategy
- Modeling with students
- Prepare learning materials
Between Sessions II & III
- Use lessons in own classes
- Keep track of students' learning
- Keep track of changes in own philosophy
Session III Topics and Activities 2 days
- Share observations and data
- Modeling conceptual change strategy
- Introduce peer coaching
- Plan lessons and peer coaching
- Begin examining curriculum
- Develop learning materials
Between Sessions III & IV
- Implement lessons
- Maintain journal to keep track
- Engage in peer coaching
- Maintain journal to keep track of observations, ideas, changes in self and students
Session IV Topics and Activities 1 day
- Share experiences
- Discuss standards
- Reflect on appropriateness of expectations of students, experiences provided, and assessment
- Discuss future plans, strategies, and expand the process
After Session IV
- Teachers and administrators continue to implement what has been developed and make plans for future professional development.
