    SOAR Competencies

    SOAR will be a clear indication to employers and graduate schools that participants have taken the time and initiative to invest in more than just their curricular requirements. Students will gain hands-on experience in the 7 competencies deemed most important by employers and will fine-tune the skills needed to effectively articulate such experiences to a range of audiences.     Civic and community engagement icon


    Students will seek to engage with their communities through on and off-campus volunteerism, leaderships and SERVICE. Students are working to make a different in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make that difference.

    Level 2: Get Involved: Participate in the Big Event

    Level 3: Be Committed: Participate in an Alternative Spring Break

    Level 4: Be a Leader: Lead an Alternative Spring Break

    Students will open their world to people of different cultures through global and local opportunities. Students are appreciating and respecting diverse people, places and world.

    Level 3: Be Committed: Do a study abroad

    Level 4: Be a Leader: Enroll in a returnee workshop

    Students will accelerate their professional experience through internships, work study, student employment and career skills ACQUISITION. Students are attaining necessary skills to enter and become part of a strong, productive work force.

    Level 3: Be Committed: Participate in a job shadow opportunity

    Students will reach for greater knowledge and understanding through creative activity and faculty-led undergraduate RESEARCH. Students are designing, applying and disseminating research.
