Wienholz to Attend Trauma Conference in Boston

Attendance will help support her thesis research

Brittany WienholzMSW student Brittany Wienholz has received a Travel Scholarship funded through the Social Work Excellence Endowment so that she can attend the International Trauma Conference in Boston in support of her thesis research.  Brittany stated "This conference will review up-to-date research in the area of trauma impact and recovery, therefore informing my research discussion of application of findings within the current body of literature."

In exchange for this support, Brittany will provide the Division of Social Work with photos/videos from the conference along with content that other students can use.

The Division of Social Work is pleased to support the research efforts of students such as Brittany, who also received an award in the competitive poster presentation at the College of Health Sciences Grand Rounds and presented on her thesis research study and preliminary findings at the Shepard Symposium for Social Justice in April 2014.

Conference Attendance Greatly Informs Thesis Research

Brittany Wienholz attending trauma conference in Boston
"Learning about how people overcome trauma and exhibit resilience in the midst of hardship has been a growing interest of mine, and vital to the field of social work. With the support of the Division of Social Work's Excellence Endowment Fund I was able to attend the 25th Annual International Trauma Conference in Boston. This opportunity provided updates in the field of psychological trauma, including neuroscience, attachment and therapeutic interventions, which greatly informed my thesis research. I felt star-struck by the many professionals who have made significant strides in this field and was inspired for my future career and professional development...especially since it can better so many lives. Many thanks to those who contribute to the Social Work Excellence Endowment Fund. This opportunity would not have been possible without your support! Brittany Wienholz, Graduating MSW Student
