A new partnership is forged between the UWyo-Ed Family Care Training Institute: a training arm of the Wyoming Education and Social Research Institute (WESRI) in the Division of Social Work and the Wyoming Department of Health, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse (WDHMHSA) that supports SAGE, UPLIFT, and Child Mental Health Waiver initiates for children and families in Wyoming. Mental health issues face numbers of Wyoming families. In 2007, over 4000 Wyoming children were provided mental health services while in some type of professional placement whether in therapeutic residential care, crisis centers, groups homes, the Boy's and Girl's Schools or other placement type used by program professionals. More than 6,000 children and youth were served by some mental health authority in the state.
Hats On! is a new training umbrella to better educate and train the broad range of professionals and lay professionals who serve families who have a child that has mental health needs. Training programs are being designed that will be delivered through video conferencing to extend the reach of educational learning throughout Wyoming.
The Wyoming DHMHSA SAGE Initiative and UPLIFT, a Wyoming family resource network, are collaborators with WDHMHSA and partner with families, children, and communities to improve how we support and empower families, how families gain access to child mental health and related family program services, and how families grow and thrive. Funding includes state revenues, grant funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental health Services Administration (SAMHSA). A vital outcome for this education and training program is to promote successful multi-professional decision-making that addresses the behavioral and mental health needs of a child and his/her family.
