Oct. 31, 2006 -- Tisa Sucher is the new assistant lecturer of social work at the University of Wyoming/Casper College (UW/CC) Center.

Sucher is a clinical social worker licensed by the state of Wyoming, a social work clinical supervisor at Wyoming Kidney Center and a co-founder of the Sunrise Resource Center LLC, a private counseling and consulting practice in Casper. With 12 years of field experience and two semesters as an adjunct faculty member for the UW/CC Center, she is excited about preparing students for work in the community.

"Educating patients is a good portion of social work," Sucher says. "There is continuity in consulting with patients and teaching social work students."

Sucher graduated from UW in 1993 with her bachelor's of social work and earned her master's of social work in 2001. After working at the Wyoming Medical Center for five years, she began providing support for dialysis patients at the Wyoming Kidney Center in Casper. For more than seven years, she helped patients adjust to life changes caused by their treatments and advised them of pertinent community resources.

She now teaches on-site courses at the UW/CC Center, including this fall's "Human Behavior in Social Environment" and "Social Work Methods I," which are introductions to social work practice with a focus on individuals and families. She will also teach videoconference classes in the future.

"The UW/CC Center is a valuable resource for people across the state," Sucher says. "It helps to feed communities throughout Wyoming with good professionals."

As a Casper native, Sucher is vested in the community. Her goal is to promote social work in Casper and to help it grow. She believes that by teaching prospective social workers practical tools, she can help get people excited about social work.

"My mother told me I should go into social work," Sucher says. "I adore it. I'm totally passionate - I love what I do! It's great to have the opportunity to excite other people about social work too!"
