ADMISSION INFORMATION

Before Applying, Note That:

 

  • Admission is open to all students holding a bachelor’s degree in any major.
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • GRE/GMAT scores are not required
  • We DO NOT waive application fees.
  • The Office of Admissions provides more information regarding TOEFL/IELTS waivers.

Application Materials:

Within the UW application system you will be asked to submit the following:

 

Unofficial Transcripts: Upload transcripts from all colleges/universities you have attended or are currently attending. *This includes UW transcripts.

 

Statement of Purpose: Write an essay of two pages or less addressing the following:

1) Your academic background and past experience;

2) The role of obtaining this degree in your future career plans;

3) Your plans for research/academic area of focus during the MA program, and why you believe this program is the appropriate place to pursue those plans (include an explanation of which faculty you would like to work with directly and why);

4) How your academic achievements and interests have been shaped by your personal experiences.

 

Writing Sample: Include an academic writing sample of at least 2 pages.

 

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

 

Two letters of Recommendation: You will be prompted to provide the contact information for your recommendation letter writers through the online application. Be sure your recommendation letter writers can speak to your academic background and/or relevant past professional experience. Note that these letters must be received by the deadline in order for your application to be reviewed.

 

Graduate Assistantship Application (Optional): If interested in a Graduate Assistantship, you must answer the questions under the ‘Program Questions’ section of the online application. For more information see the SPPAIS Graduate Assistantships Page.

 

DEADLINES

Application Deadlines:

 

The deadline for admissions and Graduate Assistantships for the Fall term is February 1st. Applications are accepted year-round, on a rolling basis, until August 15th for that Fall semester. However, applications received by the February 1st deadline will receive priority consideration for admissions and in the assistantship award process.

Decisions:

 

Once your application has been submitted and all materials have been uploaded, including your letters of recommendation, your application is considered complete. Beginning in February the SPPAIS graduate committee will review complete applications, and the Graduate Director will send a recommendation to the Graduate School to admit or deny the applicant. Candidates will be notified via email when their application decision is ready. There is no definitive time period between when you submit and when you will be notified—please be patient. If you submit close to the August 15th deadline you should notify us by email at sppais@uwyo.edu

After an evaluation of all credentials by the SPPAIS graduate committee, the director will send a recommendation to the Graduate School to admit or deny. Candidates will be notified via email when their application is ready. GRADUATE ASSISTANT INFORMATION

Graduate Assistantships can include a full tuition and fee waiver, a monthly living stipend, and health insurance.

Graduate assistants are assigned various duties such as class preparation, grading, research for faculty members, and office duties. Students are expected to work 20 hours per week.
