Two members of the ServeWyoming team will offer participants in their 2009 Snowy Range Nonprofit Institute workshop, "Targeting Your Recruitment Message to Get the Right Volunteers," a highly interactive experience that includes the chance for feedback on their organizations' volunteer-focused resources.
Shelly McAlpin, ServeWyoming's Volunteer Connection coordinator, and Shunta Brintley, VISTA volunteer, will facilitate the session during this year's institute, scheduled for Aug. 2-4 in Laramie.
"In this workshop, participants will explore how to create a more powerful recruitment message that attracts motivated and competent volunteers," McAlpin says. "Topics in the session include types of recruitment techniques; how to develop persuasive recruitment messages that appeal to a broad spectrum of potential volunteers, and messages designed to appeal to targeted audiences."
The workshop presenters ask participants to bring examples of current marketing materials for use in the session discussion. This is a great opportunity to get expert feedback on ways to enhance your volunteer resources.
Shelly has a strong background in nonprofit management, project coordination, community mobilization and volunteerism. She received her master's degree in political science and foreign policy from the University of Wyoming (UW). Shelly was originally introduced to ServeWyoming as a volunteer. Shortly after that, she joined the ServeWyoming team. Shelly has been actively promoting the Volunteer Connection Initiative to communities across Wyoming in an effort to help organizations with volunteer related issues.
Shunta has a life-long ethic of service. Originally from Shelby, NC, she loves the wide-open spaces of Wyoming and happily calls the "Cowboy State" her home. In her spare time, Shunta serves as a Natrona County Medical Reserve Corps member, and recently helped matched emergency volunteers for service at the Emergency Response Center for the Casper area floods. Shunta's passion for people is seen by her commitment to the Center for Abilities, where she currently services as a board member. Her motto is, "all people should have the chance to volunteer."
