Workshop explores national service |
 |
What exactly is AmeriCorps? Can AmeriCorps help my organization?
Get these questions answered and much more as ServeWyoming staff share information about all the members of the AmeriCorps family during a 2009 Snowy Range Nonprofit Institute workshop, "Understanding National Service."
Nuriéh Glasgow and Deb Nelson-Allender of ServeWyoming will lead the session during SRNI, Aug. 2-4 in Laramie.
They have three objectives for the workshop:
- Participants will understand programs funded by the Corporation for National Community Service.
- Participants will learn about the Wyoming AmeriCorps funding opportunities.
- Participants will understand the grant process and requirements for becoming and AmeriCorps program site.
ServeWyoming grants federal money to nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and schools! If you've ever wondered about starting an AmeriCorps program, more now than ever, is a great time to start brainstorming.
Nuriéh is a program officer with ServeWyoming, monitoring and assisting the development of various AmeriCorps programs in Wyoming. She has been involved with AmeriCorps since 1997 as a member, a VISTA, a commissioner and now an employee. Originally from California, AmeriCorps brought her to Wyoming, which is now her second home. Service is her passion and loves encouraging others to find ways to volunteer. She just recently she received a master's degree in public administration at the University of Wyoming.
Deb is the training officer for ServeWyoming. She handles issues related to inclusion and accommodations, as well as emergency preparedness and response. She has worked with ServeWyoming for nearly three years. She is a Wyoming native and spends her non-working hours busy with her three boys.
