Staff Senate

Points to Ponder:  Policy on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) – Proposed University Regulation

The Environmental Health and Safety Department is developing a UW Regulation and a set of policies to formalize rules and procedures for all UW employees and students in an effort to ensure a safe and healthy environment.  A draft regulation and policy was distributed to several constituencies in the University community and comments were collected.  Members of the Staff Senate Compensation Committee participated in the review and some concerns were noted and passed on to the EHS Director, Nancy Fox. 

Due to the potential impact to all members of the UW community, it was determined that a select committee of key stakeholders be formed to further review and refine the draft documents.  Staff Senate has been invited to participate and a Senator will be selected to serve on this committee.  The Senate will keep all employees informed of the progress of this endeavor and will forward any questions or concerns to the committee.

Staff Senate applauds the efforts of the EHS Department to ensure the health and safety of all UW employees and students and looks forward to a comprehensive policy and regulation that serves the UW community well.  If you do have any questions or concerns about an EHS policy, please contact your Senator.
