LiveText for Faculty

Teacher Preparation and Advising Office

Hello WTEP Faculty Members--Welcome to LiveText!

All faculty members will be required to use LiveText for all dispositions and required assessments for their courses. Departments and faculty will need to load required rubrics and assessments into LiveText. Faculty members will be responsible for loading and setting up their course level assignments, and department heads will be given administrative permission to load common assessments for their respective departments. Rubrics, assessments and course materials should be loaded into LiveText at least one week prior to the start of classes each semester.

While you are working with the LiveText system, you will likely have questions. LiveText has good Help resources that should resolve most problems you encounter.

To log in to LiveText, go to https://www.livetext.com/ and enter your user name and password. TO REGISTER AS A NEW USER ON LIVETEXT, contact Judy Yates for instructions.

LiveText Help and Training Resources

LiveText provides step-by-step instructions for many of the common tasks a faculty member or student will need to complete. To access these resources, log in to LiveText; click on ‘Help’ at the upper right corner of the screen; click on the ‘For Faculty’ tab. You will see a list of Frequently Asked Questions. Click on a question (for example ‘Q:  How do I assess a student’s assignment?’) and the steps to complete the task will appear directly below. The ‘For Faculty’ tab includes document templates, forms, and detailed how-to information on many LiveText functions including creating assignments, reviewing assignments, and adding course resources.

The ‘For Faculty’ tab also includes several manuals under the heading ‘Training Resources’ towards the bottom of the page.

LiveText Support: Faculty members and students can also call or e-mail LiveText for help.

Their phone number is 1-866-548-3839, and support@livetext.com.

Faculty Online Training: LiveText also offers a series of live “webex” training sessions. Log in to LiveText; click on ‘Help’ at the upper right corner of the screen; click on the ‘For Faculty’ tab. You will see a blue box near the top of the page titled: ‘Looking to enhance your LiveText skills? Register for a complimentary Faculty Online Training session.’ If you click on ‘Schedule and Descriptions’ you will see a calendar that shows the dates and times of training sessions hosted by LiveText (*these are central time zone). Each session is 1 hour long, and you connect to the training session over the internet. Training sessions are free, and offered at least once a month. To register for a session, click on the green button ‘Register for Faculty Online Training.’ Fill out the form and submit.

These sessions are recommended for faculty members and department heads:

C1: Managing Courses and Assignments for Faculty

This session provides step-by-step guidance for faculty and instructors on creating assignments, using the announcements feature, and creating faculty level reports. The focus will be on completing unit or program assessments, although the skills can be used for individual assignments at the course level as well. Users will be able to create a new assignment or announcement, open a submitted document, submit comments back to the author, submit an evaluation using LiveText rubrics and/or a grade, and use the reporting feature for personal data analysis.

Rubrics: Creating and Sharing Assessments

This session explores the best practices for building rubrics in LiveText. Participants will learn how to use the LiveText rubric tool to create outcomes-based assessment documents for their assignments, courses, programs, or for unit data collection. Tips for versioning, editing, and making improvements will be discussed.

Document Authoring: Beyond the Basics

This session goes beyond basic document authoring and shows how to add depth and personality to LiveText documents. Some examples include: adding audio and video clips to documents; working with images, resizing and adding multiple images to your documents; editing source HTML; and creating tables. This session will make use of the source editing mode in LiveText and show you how to incorporate elements produced in other third-party programs for photo, video, and website editing.
