Counseling Resources

We strongly recommend counseling for anyone who has experienced interpersonal violence. There are several counseling resources on campus that are low cost or free for students, as well as private practitioners in Laramie.

The UW Psychology Clinic offers specific treatment for trauma resulting from sexual violence. Services are free for students who are working with the Stop Violence Program. Therapy is provided by doctoral psychology students who are supervised by a trauma specialist. The Clinic also works with the Stop Violence Program to provide a free support group to survivors of sexual violence.

The University Counseling Center (UCC) provides short term, directed counseling on a range of issues affecting university students. Services are free for currently enrolled UW students. Counseling is provided by licensed counselors employed by UW. In certain cases, UCC may not be equipped to provide counseling, but will refer the student to appropriate resources on and off campus.

The WellSpring Counseling Clinic provides counseling on a range of issues. Services are free for students and community members. Counseling is provided by graduate students pursuing counseling degrees in the College of Education.

Laramie also has private counselors who provide services on a range of issues. If you are interested in working with a privte counselor, we recommend checking with your health insurance plan to see what services are covered, and checking with the counselor to make sure they are trained to provide trauma therapy. Benfitted UW employees may be able to access local private counseling services through the UW Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

If you report the incident to law enforcement, you may also be eligible for reimbursement of counseling payments through the state Victim's Compensation Program. The Albany County Crime Victim Witness Program or SAFE Project can provide more infomation about Victim's Compensation.
