The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to continue supporting the Center for Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE). Born of a unique collaboration between the Dean of Students Office and the Wyoming Union, SLCE is predicated on the notion that universities have a responsibility to prepare all students for active citizenship. SLCE seeks to cultivate engaged leadership, which a healthy American democracy demands.

Situated in the lower level of the Wyoming Union, SLCE houses an array of leadership and service programs while fostering additional opportunities to become involved across campus. One of the programs hosted by SLCE is the First Year Institute (FYI!), a leadership development retreat for incoming freshman and transfer students. Students spend a weekend engaging in intensive educational leadership workshops and informational sessions. Please encourage your student to participate in this leadership opportunity by signing up as soon as he/she gets to campus. Please visit for more information.

UW SLCE develops students who are:

  • Committed life-long learners through critical and independent thinking;
  • Self-motivated, confident leaders who have skills to make change at multiple levels;
  • Engaged and aware within their local and global communities in responsive ways that are ethical, compassionate, and respectful.

Again, please encourage your student to get involved on campus. Research shows students do better academically and are more satisfied with their college experience if they are involved and engaged on campus. For additional information about SLCE, please call (307) 766-6340.
