Improving Campus and Community Engagement

Official PDU Opportunity for Student Affairs Staff!


3:30pm-4:30pm Wyoming Union Family Room

This session will provide a brief overview of different types of engagement and the need for improving development of civic learning, civic engagement, and democratic engagement on campus and in the greater community. We will provide an opportunity for participants to break out into more specific discussion groups for dialogue about salient areas of improvement and to discuss action items for moving forward. The discussions will be facilitated by student, staff, faculty, and community leaders.

Breakout discussion topics:

  • Bridging engagement between the UW campus and the Laramie community

  • Increasing student engagement

  • Staff and faculty engagement


Evening Conversations with Curators

Appalachia: Photographs by Shelby Lee Adams, 1989-2009

5:30-6:30pm The University of Wyoming Art Museum

Get an inside look at Appalachia: Photographs by Shelby Lee Adams, 1989 – 2009 exhibition with a gallery walk-through. Visitors will be joined by Nicole Crawford, Curator of Collections and Katie Christensen, Curator of Education and Statewide Engagement. Discussion will start with stories behind Adam’s connections to Appalachia, how we interpret contemporary imagery, and conversations about the marginalized, socially excluded culture of the mountain people from the Eastern Kentucky hollers.

This special evening event is part of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue week of programming, January 30-February 4, 2017.
