Standing up against the crowd can be difficult, especially if that crowd is your friends and family. Finding out that who you are may not be approved by others is a challenge that most people deal with, but one does not have to go through it alone.

As we go through college we are surrounded by diversity. Luckily we are able to find groups, a Recognized Student Organization or just a group of individuals you meet, where our diverse personalities, lifestyles and backgrounds can be accepted. More than being accepted, it is here where we can also learn more about the differences in others and find them beautiful. That is what is amazing about being human, connecting with people despite any differences you may have.

I know that I carry stereotypes around in my pocket, but I hope to educate myself enough to be released from them, and to help those around me do the same.

Today, free yourself of stereotypes and try something or meet someone new. Differences can become a way to connect, and connecting with someone is a beautiful thing. Take you one step closer to freedom.
