Winter Break Travel Course - Business 4540/5540 Global Business Issues: Brazil

BUSN 4540/5540, Global Business Issues, 3 credits - COURSE CANCELED

Online portion of course:  August 26-December 13; Travel portion:  December 14-22; Instructor:  Terri Rittenburg.  One of the rapidly developing BRICS countries, Brazil is the focus of much attention these days with the upcoming Soccer World Cup in 2014 and Summer Olympics in 2016.  Brazil’s dynamic economy will provide a unique location for learning about business in an emerging market.  Students will visit a variety of businesses in the Santa Catarina region, including global manufacturers, energy and biofuels plants, and a modern cargo port.  The trip will include cultural events and visits to Iguaçu Falls and Rio de Janeiro.  Topics for focus in the course are Brazil’s culture, effects of the macroenvironment on business, and regional economic integration in Latin America.  The online component of the course will include readings, guest speakers, threaded discussions, and assigned reports on topics to be shared with the group.  This course is open to all majors.  There are no course prerequisites; students must have junior standing for this upper-division class.
