Frequently Asked Question

I’M ALREADY ON CAMPUS PERSONAL AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS QUESTIONS ON REGISTRATION FAQ Index

I’M ALREADY ON CAMPUS

  • If I am already on campus, can I mix on-campus and online classes together to complete the Certificate?

    Yes.

  • I am completing a degree at the University of Wyoming; do I have to complete all the requirements for the Certificate prior to the completion of my UW degree?

No. One of the nice features of the Certificate program, unlike majors or minors, is that it is not dependant on your degree. The Certificate program can be completed before, during, after or even without the degree.

  • I am a student at the University of Wyoming and wonder if I will get as much from an online section of one of these classes as I would if I took the class on campus?

Some students report that they get more from online classes, as they are very thoroughly developed and taught. Other students say they get more from actually attending a class in person. We suggest you talk to an advisor, other online students and take the quiz at this link to help you in making your decision. Remember, learning tends to be very individualized and one form of instruction may not be best for everyone!

PERSONAL AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • I have no background in real estate, will I be lost in these classes?

No. Courses are taught assuming no previous background in real estate.

  • How do I decide if distance education is for me?

Online education is not for everyone. Success as a distance student requires a strong commitment to completing work independently and on time. Following written directions, in print and online, understanding those instructions and being able to communicate through writing are important to all students' success, especially distance students.

  • I am not a computer geek, will I survive in an online class?

YES! However, being comfortable with the internet and e-mail is a plus! Having a basic understanding of different computer software is also helpful. If you are nervous, join the group! Many students are scared when they take their first online class, but usually find that they end up really enjoying it. In other words, you do not have to be a “computer geek” to survive an online class!

  • What are the technical requirements for online courses?

This link will lead you to a checklist of requirements that your system should meet in order for you to get the best online educational experience at the UW. If you don’t have some of the software, this page will also lead you to some free downloads.

  • Do you have a course demo available?

Yes, this link will take you to a sample of an online course. If you would like further information regarding our classes, please contact us.

QUESTIONS ON REGISTRATION

  • Are there any prerequisites required for your courses?

Any student enrolled in the real estate certificate courses who is pursuing a degree at the University of Wyoming must meet all course prerequisites.

If a student is enrolled only in the Real Estate Certificate Program (not a University of Wyoming degree program), course prerequisites are not strictly enforced. However, the instructor reserves the right to determine if the student has the necessary academic/work experience background to successfully complete the course. You may want to check with the individual instructor to determine whether you have enough background (whether it be in computer science, math, statistics, etc.) to succeed in the course(s).

To avoid problems regarding prerequisites, all students must indicate their intention of pursuing the Real Estate Certificate. This may be done by contacting Joan Downham, coordinator of the Business Online Programs at real-est@uwyo.edu or 307-766-2363.

  • Do I need to be admitted to the University of Wyoming in order to register for Outreach School courses?

Students not seeking a UW degree must apply to the University of Wyoming as a non-degree undergraduate. Degree-seeking students must apply and be admitted to the university. Application forms may be found online at http://uwadmnweb.edu/admissions/apply_now.asp.

  • Do I have to be admitted to the University of Wyoming to take one of the real estate courses? What if I want to pursue the Real Estate Certificate?
