Memorandum re: Statewide Elementary Program Sunset from Kay Persichitte, Dean College of Education, and Maggi Murdock, Dean Outreach School

Effective Fall 2012, the Statewide Elementary Education program is being gradually phased out and discontinued.  Although the program is no longer admitting new students, the College of Education and the Outreach School remain committed to ensuring that students currently in the program will have the opportunity to finish their remaining coursework and graduate from the program.  

This program has been operating on a cohort by cohort basis for five cohorts (cohort five began in the fall of 2012).  This program will be 'sunsetting'.  Three points are worth noting:

1. What does 'sunsetting' of the program mean?  It means that the College of Education will not recruit or admit students for a 6th cohort of this program. The University of Wyoming is committed to seeing cohort 5 through to the completion of the three year course cycle in the spring of 2015 so that the cohort students have the opportunity to complete their bachelors degree.
2. There are still students in cohort 3 and 4. Their ongoing course cycles will be offered through to their conclusions.
