Juliana Freude 


Assistant Lecturer, Dance


Miss Freude is a native of Akron, Ohio where she trained for twelve years at The University of Akron Dance Institute. Miss Freude was soloist in the Dance Institute production of The Snow Maiden and received the Gena Carroll Scholarship. Miss Freude has also appeared with The University of Akron Repertory Dance Company in many roles including a soloist in Onda 9 by Ana Lobe, former principle dancer of Cleveland San Jose Ballet and Letting Go by Travis Gallin. She has spent summers training with Jennifer Muller Modern Dance, Nashville Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theatre, Connecticut Ballet and Ohio Dance Theatre. At the age of seventeen, Miss Freude understudied with the Ohio Ballet in Rite of Spring and performed with the company in Dracula. Miss Freude performed with Nashville Ballet as a trainee in The Nutcracker and other varies ballets. Miss Freude was also an apprentice with the Charleston Ballet Theatre. While dancing with the Charleston Ballet she has performed original works such as Rite of Spring, Sleeping Beauty, and Great Gatsby choreographed by Jill Eathorne Bahr. She also was able to perform a variety of dance forms such as works from Broadway and Bob Fosse. This included pieces from Broadway shows such as Chicago, The Producers, Hairspray, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.

After leaving Charleston Ballet, she has had the opportunity to perform as a guest artist in the leading role of Helen Keller, A Tribute to her Teacher choreographed by Christopher Fleming. As well as a piece called Unconquered Warriors. This work is choreographed by Nai Ni Chen. Alongside continuing her career, Juliana pursued her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree online from the University of Toledo as well as establishing herself as an educator in pre-professional local dance performing arts schools.

She carried on to worked with the Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theatre Company performing in a piece called Trucks and Leverage. After performing as a guest artist in 2009 Juliana continued on to work with Connecticut Ballet for six years in works including Indian Summer, choreographed by Joseph Locarro and Pulse, choreographed by Darrell Moultrie along with many others. Juliana performed for over ten years in principle roles such as Cinderella, Valse Fantaisie, Raymonda and others for Ohio Dance Theatre. While dancing with Ohio Dance Theatre, she is also a company member with NEOS Dance Theatre. She has done varies works with NEOS for instances, Gershwin Pas De Deux choreographed by Artistic Director of Neos Dance Theatre, Robert Wesner and Whales choreographed by Hubbard Street’s principal dancer, Alicia Klock. She has had the privilege to perform in other Hubbard Street pieces such as Lickety-Split" Restaged by: Toban Del Cuore, Bonobo and Flight both choreographed by Penny Saunders.

In spring of 2020, Juliana officially retired after celebrating eleven seasons with NEOS Dance Theatre. During that time, Miss Freude also received her Master of Fine Arts in Dance, Design and Production: Creative Practice from Saint Mary’s College of California.  Juliana is currently embarking on the next chapter in her career as an Assistant Lecturer in Dance at The University of Wyoming. This is Juliana’s first year in the Department of Theatre and Dance.
