UW Theatre and Dance to Open 2005-06 Season
Oct. 4, 2005 -- The University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and
Dance launches the 2005-06 season with “Collected Dances Part I” at 7:30
p.m., Oct. 12-15 and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, at the UW Fine Arts
Main Stage.
Tickets, $13 for the general public, $11 for senior citizens, and $6 for
students, are available through the UW Fine Arts ticket office. For
more ticket information call (307) 766-6666, or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
The show features original works by UW dance faculty members Vincent Brosseau, Mel Claridge and Margaret Wilson.
The concert opens with “La-Bas,” a contemporary pointe ballet
choreographed by Brosseau. “Whisper,” also choreographed by Brosseau, is
a modern dance set to the music of Rachmaninoff.
Wilson’s stark and athletic valence, “A Trio for Women,” features music by Arvo Part.
“Valence is very challenging for the dancers,” says Wilson. “They must
rely on the timing of the movement and their awareness of the other
dancers on stage for their cue.”
Claridge contributes two pieces to the concert. His "Home" is a fluid
modern dance that emphasizes color and line, while “Passion” is a
percussive dance with Latin flavor.
Closing out the dance concert is Brosseau’s “Overtwore,” originally choreographed in 1992 for Brosseau Danceworks.
