UW Dance Program Draws Rave Review

"Dance students have discovered a well-kept secret -- the dance program at the University of Wyoming" according to an article in the January 1997 edition of Dance Teacher Now, a national trade magazine.

The article, "High Culture on Wyoming's High Plains," says UW's Department of Theatre and Dance "focuses on providing an excellent preprofessional program to undergraduates."

UW dance faculty members Patricia Tate, Margaret Stalder, Marsha Fay Knight and General McArthur Hambrick all are cited in the article for bringing "talent and real-world experience" to their students.

Tate was cited for establishing and directing the annual Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival, offered in cooperation with the Colorado Ballet of Denver and the Peter Pucci Plus Dancers of New York City. The dance festival is open to high school students, college students and dance teachers. It offers classes in classical ballet, character, modern, jazz, tap and pedagogy; and special seminars in such topics as injury prevention, makeup and acting.

The magazine article commends the UW dance program for offering "modern facilities and partnerships with dance companies (that) provide valuable opportunities for dance majors."

In addition to course work and preprofessional training, UW students may join performances in classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, musical theatre, workshops and lecture demonstrations throughout Wyoming and neighboring states.
