Aviation History -- Larry Walters, a truck driver from California, is
shown in this 1982 AP file photo before lift-off. With the help of
nearly 50 surplus weather balloons, Walters fulfilled his dream of
making aviation history by launching himself nearly three miles into the
air in an aluminum lawn chair. The UW Department of Theatre and Dance
presents the play about his life, “Man in the Flying Lawn Chair,” June
26-30. (AP Photo)
