2016 Snowy Range Summer Theatre Season

We’re proud of the long history and success of UW Summer Theatre, which at 63 years old is the second oldest program west of the Mississippi!

This summer, we are excited to produce our first season in the new Thrust Theatre of the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts.

The high-spirited 2016 season opens with THE MISSIONARY POSITION, Keith Reddin's timely comedy about back-room dealings on the presidential campaign trail, followed by Steven Schwartz’s GODSPELL 2012, a masterful retelling of the original Broadway sensation, injected with contemporary references and dazzling new arrangements, and I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES, a classic family tale told with Neil Simon’s signature comedic wit.

Show Descriptions

Here's a look at our upcoming 2015 summer season.

Missionary Position

Written by Keith Reddin
Directed by Patrick Konesko
Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre

June 14 - 18, 7:30 p.m.

COMEDY Pragmatism and piety collide in this political comedy set during a Presidential primary season. Amid a backdrop of banal hotel rooms in cities from Houston to Detroit, Roger, an influential operative of a Christian organization, does battle with Neil, a cynical, no-holds-barred campaign manager, for the soul of an unseen presidential front-runner. In the mix is Julie, a wealthy donor who dreams of running for office herself.  In THE MISSIONARY POSITION, Reddins’ biting humor exposes the hypocrisy inherent in today's politics. THE MISSIONARY POSITION is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York, NY.

"A smart, crisp comedy about the goings-on behind the scenes in a political campaign…Reddin scores high marks.”—Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

"A smart, sassy skewering of the back-room machinations of presidential politics, where personal rivalries and agendas can derail the larger mission…cynical humor that recognizes that when winning is the sole concern, no one is above a little double dealing, skullduggery and betrayal." —Pittsburgh Tribune.

"THE MISSIONARY POSITION makes you laugh again and again, because it's really really funny. It's not mean-spirited and it's not preachy…smart, fresh humor…a highly recommended diversion." —Talkin' Broadway.

MUSICAL  This groundbreaking, energetic musical based on the Gospel of St. Matthew,is a celebration of worldwide community, filled with popular hit songs and irresistible goodwill. GODSPELL 2012 is a masterful retelling of the original sensation, injected with contemporary references and dazzling new arrangements.  GODSPELL is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time—the recipient of a 1972 Grammy Award for Best Score from an Original Cast Show Album, and a 1977 Tony nomination for Best Original Score.  Popular tunes like the international hit “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “All Good Gifts,”  “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side” share parables about the life of Jesus, with messages of kindness, tolerance, and love.  A family-friendly show that deserves to run forever!

COMEDY It’s 1980 and struggling Hollywood screenwriter Herbert Tucker is surprised when his forgotten past reappears in the form of Libby, a teenage daughter who has trekked from Brooklyn with dreams of movie stardom. With Steffy, his sometime paramour at his side, Herb decides to take another stab at fatherhood and hopefully this time, get it right. Poignant and amusing, Neil Simon paints wonderfully dysfunctional family relationships with hilarity, honesty, and heart.
