University Counseling Center

About Our Counseling Services

UW students may receive assistance with problems that interfere with academic progress, daily living, adjustment to university life, relationship issues, etc.

UCC Professional Staff are trained in helping students cope more effectively with stresses that may interfere with their academic progress. The Counseling Center staff consists of Licensed Psychologists and Licensed Professional Counselors.

UCC is available to provide crisis management services to students by going to 341 Knight Hall or calling 307-766-2187 during normal business hours. After hours crises (risk to self and/or others) are handled by contacting our after-hours crisis line at 307-766-8989. In case of emergency, call 911.

This University Counseling Center (UCC) uses a time-effective, stepped-care approach to mental health treatment. Our research has shown that most students benefit from mental health treatment in four sessions or less.

Students seeking longer term counseling will be referred out to the appropriate level of care. Please note, based on our professional discretion, we may refer students with complex mental health needs to a higher level of care to receive wrap-around services (e.g. a combination of long-term therapy, psychiatric care, group therapy, social work, personal coaching, or specialized treatment like phone coaching).

UCC collaborates closely with the STOP Violence Program in the Dean of Students Office by providing counseling support to students who are victims of sexual violence as well as collaborative programming regarding prevention of sexual violence.
