Alcohol Poisoning

Alcohol poisoning is serious and despite being preventable, can be deadly. Be prepared and know the warning signs.

Call 911 immediately if the person:

  • Is unconscious or semiconscious
  • Has slow or irregular breathing, such as less than 10 breaths per minute or more than 10 seconds between breaths (check every 2 minutes)
  • Has skin that is cold, clammy, pale, or bluish
  • Cannot be awakened by pinching, prodding, or shouting
  • Is vomiting without waking up, or if there is blood in the vomit

Never leave a person alone to "sleep it off."  If someone is suffering from alcohol poisoning, they need emergency medical assistance.
