About UDSS Staff
Director and Coordinators
UDSS is a project within Student Educational Opportunity. The director of UDSS is also an associate director of SEO. The director attends to administrative tasks such as the UDSS budget, strategic planning, and supervision of UDSS staff. The UDSS director also supervises the SEO main offices, and has a number of students for whom she coordinates disability-related services. Four UDSS coordinators assist students in establishing and implementing individually determined disability-related services. The coordinators are a consistent resource for students. Each coordinator has an assigned caseload of students. Each student will work with their coordinator to determine what accommodations they will need during the academic year.
In addition to assisting students, each coordinator also manages specific aspects of the program. The Alternative Format Services coordinator oversees the process of securing alternative format for printed materials, including supervising the local production of alternative format.
The MTC coordinator oversees the UDSS Computer Lab and facilitates the assistive technology portion of UDSS services.
The Communication Access Services coordinator hires, supervises and evaluates interpreters, provides sign language interpreting, and schedules interpreting assignments requested throughout the UW community. She also coordinates and supervises the provision of TypeWell transcribing services.
Office Associates
The SEO main office staff will be the first smiling faces you see. They answer questions, schedule appointments for you with your coordinator, process arriving alternative format materials, check out equipment available for loan, and confirm testing dates and times.
Other UDSS Staff
Scanners convert printed material into electronic formats. Sign language interpreters interpret for those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Lab techs offer orientation and training to the assistive technology and software available in the UDSS Computer Lab and in selected campus computer labs. Transcribers, using TypeWell, convert lecture and class discussion into real-time text, to assist students with several hearing impairments. There are also other assistants who contribute to the operations of our program. These are the people who are here to help students reach academic goals by assisting with your disability related needs.
