UDSS has a number of items available for short-term loan. See your UDSS coordinator for more information and to borrow any of the items listed below.
Smartpens record audio while you take written notes, allowing you to sync your notes and lecture instantly. Smartpens are a great tool to help you study, organize, and even share your notes. SmartPens are available for loan on a semester-by-semester basis.
Special CD Players that allow students to listen to books from Learning Ally and books in audio format created by UDSS.
CD players will play books in alternative format that are produced locally. These CD players will not play books provided by Learning Ally.
Digital Recorders allow students to record and download the recording to a computer or burn to a CD. The recorders may be used with a PC (Windows) or Macs. (Available for short-term loan only).
UDSS has one TTY to loan to eligible students on a limited basis.
These portable note-taking devices consist of a standard keyboard and small screen. You can type notes using the keyboard or by writing with the Dana stylus directly onto the screen. They are easy to use and can be very handy for taking class notes. Cables are available to download files to your computer for printing.
A word is typed into the Franklin Speller. If it is misspelled, the Franklin Speller will give correctly spelled options of words spelled similarly to the entered word.
The CarryMate is a portable video magnifier with an 11.3" viewing screen that allows students to magnify the words and images from a chalk/marker board in class, slideshow presentations given by a professor, or a notebook that you may use to take notes.
The Amigo is another portable magnification device and is simple to use. Just place it directly over the material and adjust the magnification by a turn of the dial. You can use it to read notes, textbooks, or other class/study materials.
The portable device can be used to amplify your voice in appropriate settings.
To check out loanable equipment, meet with your coordinator and fill out the UDSS Equipment Check Out Policy and Agreement form. The form states the rules for checking out the equipment, how long you may keep the equipment, and the consequences should you not turn in the equipment on time or in working order.
