COVID-19 Requests: Students Not Currently Registered with DSS

Process

Students who are not currently registered with DSS and whose age or health condition falls within one of the CDC High Risk categories or who have other special circumstances as it relates to University policies regarding COVID -19 may seek a Reasonable Accommodation or Campus & Academic Exception through the request process described below.

The following steps give a general outline to initiate a reasonable accommodation or workplace exception process:

  1. Fill out the Reasonable Accommodation / Campus & Academic Exception Intake form. The Questionnaire has been updated with COVID-19 specific questions to assist the University with determining if your request will be processed as a request for an accommodation under the ADA or as a Campus/Academic Exception.

  2. Based upon the information provided in the questionnaire, DSS will determine if you:

    1. May have a disability as defined by ADA; or

    2. You do not have a disability as defined by the ADA but still require a classroom/campus exception due to your specific circumstance and the current COVID-19 Pandemic; or

    3. Further information is needed prior to making any determination.

  3. Based upon the determination, DSS will:

    1. For students who may have a disability as defined by the ADA, students will be referred to engage in the DSS eligibility process and make requests for accommodations through that process.

    2. For students who are not currently registered with DSS and whose age or health condition falls within one of the CDC High Risk categories or who have other special circumstances as it relates to University policies regarding COVID, DSS will engage in an interactive process with relevant University offices regarding the request; the interactive process may include but is not limited to the Dean of Students office, professors, the registrar, and the office of Academic Affairs.

  4. You will be notified in writing once a final decision is made regarding your request for a reasonable accommodation or Campus/Academic exception. Approvals made through the DSS process will be sent by DSS staff.  Other requests not on the basis of a disability will be communicated to the student by the Dean of Students office.

  5. Any additional requests for changes or modifications to the most recently approved arrangement can be made by students to DSS.
