UDSS Main Computer Lab Details
Knight Hall, Room 7
- Fall & Spring Semesters
Sunday: 3 - 9 pm.; Monday - Thursday: 8 am. - 9 pm.; Friday: 8 am. - 5 pm.; Saturday: closed.
- Summer Session
Monday - Friday: 7:30 am. - 4:30 pm.; Weekends: closed
The Main Lab may also be accessed any time Knight Hall is open by requesting the key from the UDSS office in Knight Hall Room 109, or the SEO main office in Knight Hall Room 330.
The lab is staffed part-time by lab assistants who can answer any general questions about the software and hardware used in the lab.

- Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.5
Voice recognition software translates speech into type and uses voice commands for the computer and word processor.
- Inspiration 9.0
Visual learning software that helps organize thoughts and uses graphics and outline views as ways of presenting ideas and information. Great tool for organizing written assignments.
- JAWS 10.0
Text-to-speech software that uses keyboard commands to read aloud what is on the screen.
- Kurzweil 3000
Scanning, reading, and editing solution for people with visual impairments, learning disabilities, or reading difficulties.
- HP ScanJet Scanners
Standard lab scanners fitted with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software.
- ZoomText 9.1
Screen magnifying software that allows the viewer to enlarge the material on the monitor as well as apply other visual changes.
- Aladdin Genie Pro
A closed circuit TV system that magnifies and projects printed materials onto the monitor for easier viewing. Color and contrast options are also available.
- Portable Video Magnifiers
Available for check out, portable video magnifiers, such as the AMIGO and Carry Mate, allow people with visual impairments to view materials more easily.
- Braille Technology
Perkins Braille typewriter and Braille printing capability.
- Alternate Keyboards
BAT keyboards, Comfort Keys, ErgoArms, and ergonomic smart keyboards.
