RSO News and Information (updated 4/19/17):

The CAC has some exciting changes coming up for RSO Renewal! To be a Recognized Student Organization it is required that your organization renew with CAC on an annual basis. This renewal generally includes: Collegiate Link registration, having your advisor submit an advisor agreement, and attending an orientation/symposium program. The information below details some of the changes that will be happening over the summer and into next year.

Rolling Registration

This upcoming academic year we will not have a set registration period as we have in the past where your RSO had a deadline to complete all the requirements. However, your RSO will remain unrecognized until all of the requirements are completed. This means it is up to your RSO to complete all of the requirements in a timely manner. Your RSO will not receive any RSO services until your RSO has completed all of the renewal requirements. Rolling registration will run from early/mid-August to early April on an annual basis and will close during the last part of the semester and into the summer as the CAC staff reviews and updates services/content for the following year. Official dates will be published over the summer months.

Why this change? In an effort to better assist organizations, we decided to eliminate deadlines. Different colleges enroll at different times throughout the academic year and those groups, and others, were unable to meet the required dates. It is now up to the organization to ensure it has completed its requirements for when it wishes to be recognized to receive benefits and services at the University. Furthermore, this will be available before the fall semester starts so you could ideally complete this requirement before the academic year.

Video Training Modules

There will be no symposium this fall. Instead, each of your RSO officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) will have to complete video modules on WyoCourses specific to their officer position to fulfil the symposium/orientation requirement. The video training modules will also include all information pertinent to event planning and fulfil the event planning session if your RSO is seeking funding for ASUW for your programs.

Why this change? Like the deadline issues above, not all RSOs were able to attend the Symposium program. Hosting training online allows students to complete their training at their own leisure and not at a set time. Furthermore, this will be available before the fall semester starts so you could ideally complete this requirement before the academic year.

Info Sessions

Multiple non-mandatory info sessions will be held to provide information pertinent to RSOs and answer any questions. Look out for the details to be published over the summer.

With all of those changes, to renew for the upcoming 17-18 academic year, RSOs will need to complete the following requirements to be recognized:

  1. An RSO Officer must complete the registration on Collegiate Link* when the registration is available.

  2. Have their advisor submit an advisor agreement when the agreement for next academic year is available.

  3. Each officer will have to complete their respective video training modules.

All information about these changes will be published on the RSO webpage and communicated via the RSO listserv which is sent to all organization officers and their advisors. It is imperative that RSOs ensure your Collegiate Link Roster is up to date before the end of this academic year. There is walkthrough and a YouTube video on how to update your Collegiate Link Roster which can be found on the RSO Resources & Forms Webpage to help guide you through the process.

Throughout the upcoming academic year, we will publish a list of RSO statuses on our website so you and UW entities/services will be able to see what RSOs are currently recognized and what requirements are missing.

*On a related note, the system we know as ‘Collegiate Link’ will be rebranded over the summer months. This will include a new look, updates to the software to better assist you, and possibly a new web address to visit (we are in talks with our service provider about this currently). So, again, we cannot stress how vitally important that you ensure we are communicating with the correct contacts as we go into next year and that your organization roster is correct.

If you have any questions about renewal or RSOs please feel free to email rsohelp@uwyo.edu or stop by the CAC (Union 012).
